A Lacklustre Fair...

Yesterday i happen to go to the CHENNAI BOOK FAIR which was majorly hyped by the media and my dad.He claimed that there would be books and journals covering all the topics under the sun.I am not a book freak at all but i just wanted to check out how it was going to be and whether it was living up to its hype.I am going to a book fair after a gap of 18 yrs.The last time i went there was in 1989 and i remember everything clearly since that was the first of many unforgettable incidents in my life.It was a routine family outing and as we know that the book fair is more or less like a fish market flocked with people. There were thousands of people there and i was a three year old being carried by my dad.As they stopped in a stall i was told to walk with my dad so that he can have a look at the books. In that mess i was pushed away and i was gone.Lost and soon i was in tears.I Could not find my dad or mom.I kept walking and obvi crying. Finally after about half hour my dad's friend spotted me and took me to the main entrance where my parents were waiting.I guess this was the inspiration to invent a cell phone so that people can track down their lost children in times of crisis:).Anyway that was long time ago.

This time i was careful plus i had a cell.so no prob..ha ha...About This years fair basically i am not a book freak,so i am not too sure about the intricate details of the books involved..But from what i noticed i had nothing much to do there. The majority of books present there were tamil books which included old tamil literature, tamil classics and tamil comedy. The most amazing part of it was that it was huge. There were 400 stalls to choose from and this year the new addition was that there was a food court.Nothing great about the food though. In the end my mom bought a lot of tamil books while i was gazing around trying to get out of the crowded mess.Almost all the publishers had their stalls put up but as a dedicated anna university student i searched and searched for the most wanted publisher.Yeah the most WANTED CHARULATHA publishers was never to be seen..guess they are doing enough profit that they did not opt for a stall.Basically a very sad fair for non tamil readers...
