The "IPL" FARCE!!!

I was looking forward to the games in Chennai since the conclusion of IPL 2008. My friends decided to sponsor tickets for a couple of games for me as well. The entire hype surrounding city based fans and a bigger IPL Season 2 has turned to a dream. I doubt if the IPL will ever be the same again. Being one of the craziest cricket fans in the country, it is not an easy pill to digest. It is very disappointing that of all the things that they could have done with the prevailing situation, they chose to shift it out of India. The Indian politics scene is so bad that the election spread over a month is just an eye wash. We all know that at the end of the day the rich get richer while the poor get poorer. With a nation of over 1 billion people, I don't think it is hard to manage an election.

Our elections have very little impact on the people if not any. It's a matter of great national shame that the IPL is not held in our country. Any time someone or some media outlet props India's name up as a rising power or the 'world's largest democracy', this example should be brought up. As a friend of mine says , "India is a shamocratic nation and not a democratic one". Nandan Nilekani was a guest at " The Daily show by Jon Stewart" a couple of days back and he had said that the elections are one of the biggest events in the country and it spans over 1 month and is held " Peacefully". I really doubt if it could be held peacefully without any unprecedented incident. As my brother told me the other day " Hope the next Indian guest would mention that we can't hold a sporting event fearing nationwide riots and attacks and hence will move an event named after our country and with teams named after 8 of our cities to a different country where we will be watched by 5 old men and a dog". It boggles me that the BCCI could not have made it a 25 day event with money spent on some private security force. It is just inhuman to do this to fans. Being a cricket fan, I just cant accept the fact that due to a stupidity of a few shenanigans we are losing the IPL. Big busy cities will always have security issues. The fact that the government is refusing support because of petty politics and the BCCI monopoly is not placing the interest of the fans' and players' above their ego is mind boggling.

Can't wait for Chennai vs Delhi in Durban...wee-hoo!!!

I think it is a stigma now that has come to be associated with the subcontinent. It's not like the security in other countries are better or they are less prone to any form of attacks. But the with nature of the subcontinent has resulted in this decision. Of course, the elections just added fuel to the fire. Forget the govt, we have no idea what were the concerns of the international players like. You cannot blame either parties here. Be happy they did not cancel it. And moreover, it'll be a few years till we can say - IPL will never be the same anymore. This is just a temporary thing right?

Dude...IPL is a lot of money. If security can't be provided, means it really cannot be provided. If election could be completed in less than a month, it would've been, considering the amount of money at stake.

@adi.. there are close to 25 NBA games a day...they do have the security for that.. If international playere were the concern they should be vocal about that.. they kept saying we are a safe nation...

@ara.. I cant beleive your actually buying waht the politicians are saying.. u need 2000 police personnel for a match dude.. we have 63000 forces in the ocuntry.. I dotn think it should be a prob.. it is just that there is a lot of policts problem where the governemtn wants to gun down sharad pawar..
